5 Stunning Beaches Near Pinewood Park

Ever returned from holiday wishing you'd found that perfect beach?

Some Pinewood Park guests drive right past Yorkshire's best coastal spots without even knowing they exist…

Hidden Treasures Just Minutes From Your Glamping Pod

After years of visiting the same crowded spots, how about a secluded bay that changes everything. The soft golden sand. The dramatic cliffs. And best of all? Barely another soul in sight.

That's the magic of staying at Pinewood Park. You're just minutes from some of Britain's most spectacular beaches – many that even locals don't know about.

Let me share our insider secrets so you don't miss the coastal magic on your stay.

The Local Favourites: Scarborough's Twin Beaches

1. North Bay: The Adventurer's Choice

Just a 7-minute drive from your Pinewood Park pod lies North Bay – my personal recommendation for morning visits.

Why you'll love it:

* Blue Flag status (among Europe's cleanest beaches)

* Wide, golden sand perfect for morning walks

* Excellent surfing conditions – lessons available for beginners

* Quieter than South Bay, especially before 10am

* Amazing rock pools at the northern end during low tide

**Insider tip:** Park at Peasholm Park and walk down – you'll save on parking fees and enjoy the beautiful Japanese gardens on your way.

2. South Bay: Family Fun Central

For classic seaside entertainment, South Bay delivers everything you could want – just 8 minutes from Pinewood Park.

Perfect for:

* Families with children of all ages

* Traditional seaside activities (donkey rides, ice cream, arcades)

* Building the ultimate sandcastle (the sand here is perfect consistency)

* Grabbing fish and chips to eat on the beach

  • Watching fishing boats come and go from the harbour
  • Pirate ship rides
  • Speedboat Rides

**Local secret:** The far southern end near the Spa Bridge is much quieter, even in peak season. Head there if you want South Bay's amenities without the crowds.

The Hidden Gems Most Visitors Miss

3. Cayton Bay: Our Top Recommendation

If you only visit one beach during your stay, make it Cayton Bay – just 10 minutes south of Pinewood Park.

Why it's special:

* Dramatic cliff backdrop with breathtaking views

* Wide, sweeping bay that never feels crowded

* Crystal clear water (often better than Scarborough's)

* Dog-friendly year-round – perfect if you're bringing your pet

* The Surf Shop café serves the great bacon sandwiches on the coast

**Staff favourite:** "The light at Cayton Bay around 8am is simply magical for photos – especially with morning mist rolling off the cliffs.”

4. Cornelian Bay: The Secret Escape

Between South Bay and Cayton Bay lies the coast's best-kept secret – a hidden cove that feels like your own private beach.

What makes it special:

* Accessible only via a challenging cliff path (not for everyone!)

* Fascinating rock formations and fossils to discover

* Often completely empty, even in August

* Incredible stargazing spot if you stay until dusk

* The ultimate peaceful escape from everyday life

**Important note:** Check tide times before visiting! The beach disappears at high tide, and you could get cut off.

Worth The Extra Drive

5.Filey Beach: Perfect Day Trip

A 15-minute drive south brings you to what many consider Yorkshire's finest beach.

Why guests love it:

* Five miles of uninterrupted golden sand

* Gentle slope into the sea – ideal for paddling

* Brigg peninsula offers dramatic walks and views

* Charming traditional town with excellent cafés

  • Space to truly spread out, even on bank holidays

**Family recommendation:** Pack a picnic and walk south from the main beach access – after 15 minutes, you'll find your own perfect spot away from everyone else.

Beach Day Essentials: Be Prepared

Unlike Mediterranean holidays, Yorkshire beach days require a bit of planning:

Weather wisdom:* Even sunny days can turn quickly – pack layers and a windbreak

Tide awareness:* Download the "UK Tide Times" app before your trip

Beach kit:* Buckets, spades and beach games available to purchase from our reception

Food and drink:*Lots of delicious places to eat, or make yourselves a pack up

Accessibility:* North Bay and Filey have the best access for pushchairs or those with mobility issues

Perfect Beach Days For Different Guests

For Families With Young Children

**Our recommendation:** South Bay in the morning (before it gets busy), then ice cream at Harbour Bar before heading back for afternoon nap time.

For Couples Seeking Romance

**Our recommendation:** Sunset picnic at Cayton Bay. The sun setting behind the cliffs creates the perfect backdrop for memorable photos.

For Dog Owners

**Our recommendation:** Early morning walk at Cayton Bay followed by breakfast at the dog-friendly Surf Café. Your four-legged friend will love the wide open space and potential doggy playmates.

For Adventure Seekers

**Our recommendation:** Try coasteering at North Bay with Scarborough Adventures, then warm up with hot chocolate at The Watermark Café overlooking the bay.

Thinking about a glamping break but not sure what to pack? Whether it’s your first stay or your fifth, here’s a no-stress guide to the essentials — including some handy extras to make your stay extra cosy. Based on what guests love most about glamping at places like Pinewood Park in Scarborough , this list works for all types of glamping in the UK. 1. Comfy Clothing for All Weathers Glamping may be more luxurious than camping, but the British weather can still be unpredictable! Layers, waterproofs, and something warm for evenings around the fire are a must. 2. Footwear for Exploring Bring boots or wellies for countryside walks, and a comfier pair for relaxing at your glamping spot. Sandals or flip-flops are handy for hot tubs too! 3. Towels & Robes Some sites (like us here at Pinewood!) include bedding in some cabins, but not always towels. Bring extra for hot tub dips or beach visits. 4. Torches or Fairy Lights Even if your pod, hut, or wagon has lighting, a torch is useful for late-night toilet trips — or bring battery-powered fairy lights to make things extra magical. 5. Food & Drinks Essentials While many glamping units have fridges, kettles or BBQs, a cool box and reusable tableware always come in handy. At Pinewood Park, we are only 2 miles from Scarborough town centre, so not a lot of cooking goes on up here.....which is always a bonus for the cook in the family! After all....you are on holiday! 6. Charging Cables & Power Banks Some accommodation includes electric hook-up; others don’t. A fully charged power bank can be a lifesaver (especially with teens!). 7. Games & Entertainment Card games, books, or even outdoor games like rounders or boules are great for screen-free time. 8. Toiletries & First Aid Bits Eco-friendly soaps, toothbrushes, and a mini first-aid kit go a long way — especially with little ones around. 9. Beach Day Bag If you're staying near the coast (hello, Scarborough!), pack a beach towel, sun cream, and bucket & spade so you’re ready for spontaneous seaside fun. 10. That One Luxury Item It’s glamping after all — not boot camp. Whether it’s a bottle of fizz, your favourite throw, or a speaker for music, bring one thing that makes it feel like your perfect escape.
